About ITM

The Department of Applied Environmental Science (ITM) started out as a research institute, The Institute of Applied Environmental Research, which was created in 1992, when the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) transferred four of its laboratories to Stockholm University.

In January 2005 ITM became the Department of Applied Environmental Science, and in doing so became fully integrated into the University. ITM is now one of three departments in the Section for Earth and Environmental Sciences. 
ITM has two overarching research themes that are each divided into two organizational units:

CONTAMINANT SCIENCE THEME 
-       Ecotoxicology Unit

-       Contaminant Chemistry Unit

ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE & BIOGEOCHEMISTRY THEME 
-       Atmospheric Science Unit

-       Biogeochemistry Unit
